Buddha - The God Of Buddhism Religion

When you read the word Buddha you must make a note that it is not a name but a title that was bestowed on Gautama Buddha because he was the chosen and enlightened one. Lord Buddha was born as Gautama Siddhartha 2000 years ago in Nepal.

Gautama Buddha was born in Lumbini and there are several legends that are associated with his birth. They say that Buddha was born being able to speak and spoke that he had come to this earth in order to stop all suffering and deliver mankind from it. Also, as soon as Gautama Buddha was born there was a light shower of rain that cleansed the mother and baby.

There were several instances in Gautama Buddha’s childhood that showed that he was not a normal child and had great things destined for him. Knowing of what had been prophesied for the Buddha his parents kept him secluded, and he was denied from leaving the palace walls. He was kept away from life’s realities such as death, sickness and anyone who had given up the worldly pleasures to become an ascetic.

Thus, the prince Gautama Buddha grew up to become a handsome and strong prince. Lots of Buddha pictures show him with the most beautiful wife or featured in the form of Thai Buddha seated in deep penance and meditation. Gautama Buddha continued to live in the palace but his restlessness increased day by day. He wanted to go out of the four walls of his palace and see the world, the real world. The king was afraid of this very moment, so he proclaimed that as the prince passed by he should be greeted only by the young and healthy subjects and all forms of reality and misery be kept away from him.

But this was not to be as Buddha passed by many sights that foretold of life and its realities such as getting old, sickness and the ultimate death. Gautama Buddha was deeply disturbed by all of this until he came across an ascetic who had renounced everything in life to lead a pious life.

This was the turning point in Lord Buddha’s life. Then when he was 29 years old he realized that he wasn’t happy, and he had to discover the true meaning of life. Gautama Buddha wanted to find out. Why was there so much of suffering and pain in the world, why did people have to fall ill and die and also. How could one break this vicious cycle of life and death?

This was when Lord Buddha left home and moved to the jungles in order to find out the true meaning of life. There were several obstacles in his path which he had to clear before he could attain his objective of seeking the truth. He had to deal and fight off several temptations and demons. Finally, Gautama Buddha was able to attain enlightenment under the bodhi tree and began to be called the Buddha.

There are several Buddha pictures, especially the Thai Buddha that shows him seated in penance in a particular position with folded legs and arms. There is crown on his head and earrings and a cloth draped loosely around his body.

Buddha did not have a life that was all good and no disappointment. He had to deal with quite a few setbacks in his life, but he took all of them in his stride. He had disciples from all walks of life and anyone and everyone was welcome to the fold. The Buddha’s very first disciple was Upali, who had been a barber before.

The Buddha pictures show him being enlightened under the bodhi tree at the age of 35. When the Buddha was 80 years old and had helped in the spread of the Buddhist religion far and wide, he decided that it was time for him to leave this world.

Lord Buddha was not a God and he never ever proclaimed himself to be one. He said that he was a human being, like all others, and he had to make tremendous efforts and undergo hard penance in order to transform himself. Lord Buddha or Gautama Buddha is looked at by the Buddhists as a role model and someone who will be able to guide them in following the right path and turn into enlightened souls.

The Thai Buddha was created so that people could worship him and follow the path laid down by him. They did not lay stress on the physical image but more on the characteristics that he stood for.
